I am a sum of the objects that I come into contact with throughout my life; that I use, that I make, and that I admire. My portrait is what is reflected through the colours, textures, patterns and surfaces of these objects, and whether the objects be transient or permanent in their nature, it is they that make up my everyday life, my being, and are at the core to my understanding of my sense of place in the world.


The actions and processes involved in the making of art inspire much of my practice. I bring to the forefront elements of the making process that are often overlooked. By exploring the process of turning I examine how it can become an integral part of the decorative quality of a piece.

More recent work has focused on the nature of mark-making. Inspired by the simple expressive decoration on early food vessels I have started an exploration into the way these kinds of marks can be used to create a sense of movement and a mapping of process and interaction across and over a form. I am interested in what it means to be totally immersed in an activity and aim to express this through repetitive action creating pattern and surface texture. New developments are looking into how colour can be used to accentuate the feeling of movement.

I make series of hand-thrown porcelain cylindrical vessels on the wheel. When freshly thrown I coat the vessels with slip, or leave as bare porcelain. Using various turning tools I then place each piece on the wheel and scratch into the surface whilst the pot is spinning to create energetic lines of movement. Each piece is unique. When seen in groups the vessels reverberate and resonate off one another, linked together through use of line. These expressive monochromatic exteriors are matt and tactile, and house a contrasting glossy smooth glazed interior, often coloured with pools of pale blue, black and turquoise. The visual and tactile contrasts aim to accentuate the liminal tension between the interior and exterior form of the vessel.
