I am an observer of the often unappreciated marks and patina created on both the internal and external fabric of a building as a result of the passage of time.
I make exhibition pieces and site responsive work exploring the relationships between people and buildings and the landscapes they are found within.
My inspiration comes from the patinas that are created on both the internal and external fabric of a building as a result of the passage of time. I am fascinated with the history that is revealed through the combinations of colours, marks and textures left behind by people’s and nature’s interaction with a building and the space it occupies.
I am particularly interested in how nature’s reclamation and deterioration of the outer skin exposes the underlying structure of the construction, and how the patina left on surfaces from constant use, tell the story of the building, its history and the people who have been there.
During the creation of one of my pieces it is repeatedly constructed and deconstructed, building up layers and then ageing and distressing them in the same way that a building becomes weathered and worn over time.
